The GT06 is one of the most widely sold vehicle GPS trackers in the world — cheap, reliable, and available under dozens of brand names (GT06, GT06N, GT02 and many clones). This Tracker speaks the GT06 protocol natively, so you can point any of these devices at our server and watch it appear on your live map.
What you need
- A GT06-family GPS tracker, installed and powered in your vehicle
- A SIM card with an active mobile data plan inserted in the tracker
- The tracker's IMEI number (printed on the device label)
- A free This Tracker account
Step 1: Install the SIM and power up
Insert the SIM, wire the tracker to the vehicle's power, and wait outdoors until the LEDs indicate both GSM and GPS lock. Disable the SIM's PIN code beforehand by testing it in a phone.
Step 2: Set the APN
Send this SMS to the tracker's SIM number, replacing your-apn with your carrier's APN (for example internet):
APN,your-apn#
The tracker replies with an acknowledgement SMS. If your carrier requires an APN username and password, use APN,your-apn,username,password#.
Step 3: Point the tracker at This Tracker
Send:
SERVER,1,thistracker.com,5023,0#
1) over TCP (the 0).Step 4: Set the reporting interval
Send TIMER,30# to report every 30 seconds while moving. Shorter intervals give smoother live tracking; longer intervals save mobile data.
Step 5: Register the device by IMEI
- Sign in to the This Tracker app on web or mobile.
- Go to Devices and add a new device.
- Enter the tracker's IMEI as the identifier, give it a name, and save.
Within a minute of the tracker's next report, it appears on your live map with position, speed and heading. From there you can add geofences, speed alerts and reports.
Troubleshooting
The tracker doesn't appear on the map
- Confirm the SIM has data credit and the APN command matched your carrier exactly.
- Re-send the
SERVERcommand and check the acknowledgement SMS for typos. - Verify the IMEI entered in the app matches the label on the device digit-for-digit.
- Park outdoors — GT06 units need open sky for their first GPS fix.
Commands get no reply
Some clones require a password prefix such as 666666 or 123456 before commands — check the leaflet that shipped with your device. Still stuck? Contact support and we'll help you get connected.
